STEVE MAISH broke his run of back luck at the Las Vegas Desert Classic by winning one of the eight places in the main tournament from Monday's qualifier at Mandalay Bay.
Maish has lost in the final game of the qualifiers four times in the past, but finally ended that run with a victory over Mark Dudbridge to put himself into the First Round on Wednesday.
He was joined by seven other qualifiers on Monday, including American Ray Carver and Wes Newton - who has reached the semi-finals in the past two years.
Kevin Painter, Colin Osborne, Mervyn King, Steve Beaton and Dennis Smith also came through to book their place in the tournament.
Painter overcame Wales' Dale Pinch in their deciding game, having previously knocked out Michael van Gerwen and 1994 World Matchplay winner Larry Butler.
Osborne was a comfortable 4-1 victor against Andy Smith in their decisive clash, King took out Alan Warriner-Little 4-3 in his semi-final before ending the hopes of American Joseph Swick 4-0.
American star Carver had some nervous moments during his challenge, with a win over Canada's Dan Olson followed by final-leg wins over Jason Clark and Barrie Bates before Bob Anderson was whitewashes in his decider.
Beaton was again the curse of Tony Eccles, ending the PDC newcomer's hopes 4-3 in their final game only a fortnight after edging out Eccles for the final qualifying spot in the Stan James World Matchplay.
Dennis Smith's final two matches went all the way to the seventh leg, with the Swindon star edging out Kevin McDine and Richie Burnett to secure a place on stage.
Ronnie Baxter, the number one seed for the qualifiers, was a first-game casualty against Rick Arnott, while Jelle Klaasen also suffered an early exit against Steve Bentley.
Bentley went on to win Board One, before losing 4-3 to Richie Burnett in the last 32.
Americans Brad Wethington, Scotty Burnett, David Fatum and Jim Widmayer all won their boards but were last 32 losers.
