WADE TAKES IRISH MASTERS

 

 

Rosslare packed the The Crosbie Cedars Hotel to watch the Last 16 in the Irish Masters. The first game saw the world number 1 Colin Lloyd take on Mark Walsh. Colin powered out to a 3-0 lead only for Walshie to pull it back to 3-3. Colin under pressure left 167 with Walshie needing 81 against the darts. Colin showed his pure class taking out the shot to win 4-3.

James Wade took out Rocky Andy Jenkins 4-2 in a close fought game, which saw Jenkins miss important doubles. Kevin Painter, back after injury came up against Steve Beaton, Steve broke Kevin in the first leg and took the second with ease. The Artist powered back taking the next two legs but then Steve came back and took another leg against darts and followed up by holding throw and took the match 4-2

Dennis Priestley was too strong for Darren Webster with some super finishing and pure concentration 4-2. One Dart, Peter Manley came out to great applause, which was good to see for a change, to take on Paul Williams. The fist two legs going with throw with Paul taking out a 156. Paul then broke with Peter missing double top. Peter with a shot to break straight back again missed tops, to let Paul hold his throw. With the next games all going with throw Paul came out on top. 4-3

With Phil Taylor taking the weekend off his prodigy Adrian Lewis powered his way passed Wes Newton  4-2. Mark ‘Sparky Lander’ took on Denis ‘The Heat’ Ovens Denis after his recent win in Eastbourne was still in excellent form and turned up The Heat and burnt Mark to a crisp 4-1.

The last game of the 16 saw Jamie ‘Bravedart, Harvey take on Mr Magic Steve Maish Steve had the darts but lost the first leg by 9 darts at doubles. Steve put that right in the second breaking straight back but again missed doubles gave Jamie a shot but he was unable to take advantage, then broke Jamie again taking out 80 in two darts. Mr Magic held his throw and came threw 4-1

The last 8 saw a team Unicorn draw with James Wade taking on Colin Lloyd. The first two legs went with throw, Colin missed 78, which allowed James to hit tops and break Colin’s throw, James then held throw to go 3-1 up.  The world number 1 did not turn up in the 5th games and was still on 180, when James hit 24 to take the game 4-1 and go threw to the semi finals.

Steve Beaton took on Dennis Priestley. In this battle of the former world champions it was Beaton who hit took first blood by taking out 124 in the 4th leg to go 3-1 up, and with the darts in the 5th rapped the game up 4-1

Paul Williams came out to face Adrian Lewis. Adrian just blew Paul away in a classy performance 4-0. Denis Ovens walked out to meet Steve Maish with Mr Magic taking the bull all the legs went with throw which left the former 2 times Irish Masters winner out in the cold and Mr Magic through to the second semi final.


Steve Beaton started well in the first semi talking the first leg against James against the darts. James broke back in the second but missed doubles again to let Steve break again in the 3rd and held in the forth to go 3-1 up. James then held with a 150 out shot then broke back leaving Steve on 92. James held again and took the lead 4-3. Then broke Steve again to take the match 5-3 .

Mr Magic Steve Maish came back to the stage to take on Adrian Lewis. Mr Magic broke Adrian straight away and look like the pressure was starting to build on Adrian as Steve held throw but Adrian had a look in at tops. Adrian settled down in the 3rd  and had a 12 dart leg taking out 140. Mr Magic held again making the score 3-1. Adrian followed suit, Pressure showed again as Lewis had 5 darts to break Maish but missed. Then again had six darts to hold throw but Maish just carried on threw and broke Lewis to take the game 5-2

The Final saw James Wade and Mr Magic Steve Maish, James won the bull and took the first leg and took the second with a 96 checkout against the darts. James held and took the 3rd to go 3-0 up Steve then hit a 15 dart leg to get himself back in the match but James carried on with the pressure and to the next with Steve back on 129. Steve took the next with throw with James breathing down his neck to make it 4-2. James with throw made it 5-2. The tension was showing as 12 darts for each player at a double before James took out four to become The Irish Master of 2005
