PHIL TAYLOR, Raymond van Barneveld and Justin Pipe will all face tough openers as they bid to win a second European Tour event of 2012 at the German Darts Masters next month.
The field for the £82,100 tournament was confirmed following the qualifiers in the UK and Germany this weekend, with the three winners of his year’s previous European Tour events all picking up experienced opponents in the first round on September 7.
World number one Taylor, who won the German Darts Championship in Berlin in June, will take on Portsmouth’s Andy Jenkins, while Austrian Open winner Pipe and European Darts Open champion Raymond van Barneveld face two former World Masters winners, Tony West and Mark Dudbridge, in the first round.
World Champion Adrian Lewis faces another of the UK Qualifiers in Darren Johnson, while last weekend’s Betfair World Matchplay finalist James Wade drew Belgian qualifier Kurt Van De Rijck.Wes Newton, the number four seed, drew Andrew Gilding, while number five seed Andy Hamilton will play Austrian number one Mensur Suljovic.
Germany’s Tomas Seyler will take on Terry Jenkins, with Andree Welge playing Mark Webster and Kevin Munch facing Speedy Services UK Open champion Robert Thornton. Simon Whitlock meets Croatian World Cup representative Tonci Restovic, while Dave Chisnall – who has reached two finals and a semi-final in the three European Tour events to date – opens against Belgian ace Kim Huybrechts.
Another high-profile draw sees Paul Nicholson play Dean Winstanley, with Ronnie Baxter – a semi-finalist in the World Matchplay – playing former World Youth Champion Arron Monk and Richie Burnett meeting youngster Jamie Lewis in an all-Welsh battle. Play on the opening day will see the first round played across two sessions on two stages, with the second round taking place on the main stage in two sessions on Saturday and the last 16 playing down to the champion on Sunday.
