Jimmy White Testimonial Dinner, Grosvenor, London

The ‘Jimmy White’ Testimonial Dinner which took place at Grosvenor House, London was attended by our very own ‘Barry Hearn’ PDC Chairman, ‘Peter Manley’ PDPA Chairman, ‘Matt Porter’ PDC CEO and ‘Alan Warriner-Little’ PDPA CEO.

The all day event which was a tribute to the career of ‘The Whirlwind’ one of the most popular sprorstmen in the UK & the World and was attended by sportstars and celebrities alike.

JCNostagia who guested Peter & Alan also produced a stand with the British Lambretta and accessories. Their website www.jcnostalgia.com is also promting Darts & Snooker as well as british nostalgia.

The afternoon lunch which included an auction by ‘Willie Thorne’ of loads of snooker memorabilia, also saw ‘Jimmy Whites’ personal career snooker cue and case bought for £6,000.

The cloth on the snooker table used in the afternoons exhibition between ‘Jimmy’ and current world champion ‘Ronnie O’Sullivan’ was signed by all the snooker players in attendance including Ronnie O’Sullivan/Jimmy White/Cliff Thorburn/Denis Taylor/Mark Williams/Stephen Lee/Ken Doherty/Matthew Stevens/Peter Ebdon/Tony Drago/John Higgins/Stephen Hendry/Etc.

As well as further speaches from other sportsmen and snooker legends the afternoon also showed a video tribute to the late ‘Alex Higgins’ follwed by the career of ‘Jimmy White’.

In the evening, following dinner by Gino De A’Campo further snooker legends spoke about ‘The Whirlwind’ and videos of his career.

The culmination of the evening was a special concert from long time friend and former rolling Stone ‘Ronnie Wood’ with his band. He was later joined by Mick Hucknall and other guests to dance the night away.

Alan & Peter both stated ‘We have had a fantastic time, made some new friend and reminisced with some old ones, it was an absolute privilege to be invited and attend such a special day for one of Britains great sporting legends.

Everyone has really enjoyed themselves and will remember this day for a long time,  it was the Queens jubilee weekend but we were with the King’

Jimmy Whites professional career spanned 32 years, his highest World Ranking was World No 2 but he will be remembered for his 6 World Finals and that 147 break at the Crucible. In 1999 he received the MBE from the Queen and also appeared on the 9th ‘Ime a celebrity get me out of here’ he came third to now friend Gino De A’Campo.
