Ronnie ‘The Rocket’ Baxter claimed the Canadian Masters at the London Ontario Hotel with a 6-2 win over ‘The Artist’ Kevin Painter. Its Baxters 2nd Pro-Tour win of the season following his win in January in the German Players Championships. He disposed of Charlie Vandernakker in the first round, Dan Lauby JNR 6-0 before a last leg decider 6-5 against Steve Maish. Two convincing wins 6-0 & 6-1 against Mareno Michels & Norm Tremblay took the Blackpool darts ace into the semi-finals where he disposed of Michael van-Gerwen 6-4.
Painter started the day with wins against Sean Boussen 6-0 and Augustus Collins 6-1, before a 6-4 win against Matthew Edgar moved him into the last 16. A 6-2 win over Essex neighbour Colin Lloyd and a last leg win over ‘Aussie’ Simon Whitlock 6-5 edged him into the semi-finals where he disposed of Dutchman Co Stompe before his final defeat.
