Andy Smith ‘The Pie Man’ has won the, Barnsley Players Championships (Sun) with a resounding win against Dave ‘Chissy’ Chisnall by 6 legs to 2.
Smith with wins against, Wayne Atwood, James Richardson, Alan Tabern, Andy Hamilton, Gary Anderson 6-1 and then a 6-3 win against UK Open winner James Wade, before moving on to the final. Chisnall’s run started with German star Michael Rosenauer, Mervyn King, Co Stompe before whitewashing Simon Whitlock 6-0 just after the Aussie had hit a 9 dart leg in his previous encounter against Devon Peterson. In the quarter final he disposed of Wayne Jones 6-3 then a semi-final win over ‘Mile High’ Mark Hylton in a last leg decider.
Youth Tour player Shaun Griffiths run came to an end against Wade in the last 16 by the odd leg, but not before he had ousted Prakash Jiwa, Jamie Caven and Jelle Klassen.
Aussie Simon Whitlock hits a perfect 9 darter in his 3rd round 6-4 win against Devon Peterson.
Yesterdays finalists Paul Nicholson & Steve Brown were early exits in the weekends second Players Championships. Nicholson lost out to Steve Beaton 6-2 in round 3 and Brown to Adrian Gray 6-4 in round 2.
